The August Sun...where travellers, lurkers, friendly and fine folk all are welcome to kick off their boots, socialize and relax amongst friends, and enjoy the atmosphere that is Pennsic War... all year round!
What is The August Sun?The August Sun is an informal group of people who came together as a result of the message boards on Pennsic.Net. Although there is no "head of household" and no central meeting place except for its virtual home on the Internet, it has many organized functions, somewhere between 50 and 150 participating "members" and may one day have its own charter!
A brief historyThe message boards on Pennsic.Net have been on-line since 1999, but it wasn't until about two months before 2003 that they began to be heavily trafficked by a large group of people on a regular basis. Several threads began on the "Personals" section with the idea of meeting in person at Pennsic War 32. The idea for a symbol or badge was suggested as a recognizable and wearable icon; soon after followed the name "The August Sun."Pennsic.Net dedicated a separate message board just for August Sun discussions which not only took off like wildfire, but quickly surpassed all other boards as the most frequented and the most new postings per day. The pages you are reading now were added shortly after Pennsic War 32. The future of August Sun is full of prospects and hopes... it'll be interesting to see where it goes! August Sun's First WarA lot of really good things happened for August Sun members during its first War. There were dinners, meetings & greetings, informal gatherings, some parties and good cheer. At least one possibly long-term relationship is believed to have started as well. Not everyone got along (and in any group or society you can't expect perfect harmony). However, there was more than enough sense of community to not only weather its first Pennsic War but to also show that many folks want to meet again not only at next War but at other S.C.A. events during the year.Upcoming ActivitiesRelated Links & Things
